So, with this thread, I'm going to try to set up something I haven't seen before: a place for forum members to post a running tally of horror media they've consumed lately, and how it could be used as ChroD inspiration. That's what appeals to me most about the setting. I'm a ravenous, addicted horror buff, so ChroD gives me a chance to sort of put it all together- get creative and do stuff with themes and so on.
So, I'll start:
The most recent horror movie I watched was Southbound- which I watched specifically because a friend compared it to Midnight Roads (one of my all time favorite ChroD supplements of any line). It's really fantastic, and I especially love the "angels" that appear in it- the concept behind them, how they link the disparate stories, and the weird, twitchy, not-quite-real way they look and move.
Bookwise, I'm rereading The Strain, which is a fantastic horror story in all aspects. Though it's about vampires and viral monsters, and works great if you need a jolt of inspiration for those, to me it's always been one of the works I associate the most with Hunter- at its heart, the book is about a disparate group of people who come together to fight a supernatural threat. You could also adapt its vampires as either a replacement for the Kindred or the Strix or another kind of Wicked Dead-style undead or a rare Bloodline or lost Clan. In universe, they're extremely virulent- anyone they feed on becomes a vampire- so their "society" is very strict about always killing anyone they feed from and controlling their population. That could be an interesting hook- Kindred dealing with an infestation of these strange vampires get an offer from the elders of the species to help them stamp out the outbreak.
